Rental Property Owners - Frequently Asked Questions
General
Q: Can I upload my property details as soon as I register?
A: Yes, you can upload your property details and preview your advert immediately.
Your listing will not become active on our site for people to see until you validate
that your email address is correct. This is done by entering a verification code
that is automatically sent to you when you register with us - it proves that you
can receive mail on the address you specified.
Q: How long does the whole process take?
A: Obviously this depends on whether you have all of the required information
regarding your property to hand - description, images etc. You are able to stop
at any point and come back later, and revise your advert at any time so there is
no rush, but we have had owners go through the entire process - from registration,
uploading their details and images, verifying their email address and seeing their
property advert live on the site - in less than 15 minutes!
Q: What information do I have to provide you with?
A: You only have to provide a valid email address and contact details for
our records, then you are immediately able to upload your property details.
Q: What are your advertising rates?
A: Please see
Why Advertise With Us to see our current prices.
We also offer a variety of premium listing options, charged in addition to the regular
annual fee.
Details can be found here.
Q: What does a trial offer mean?
A: See
here for information regarding our trials

Your Advert
Q: Can I put a prominent link to my website on my property listing?
A: Yes, you can. You are able to reference your website in your descriptive
text, or in return for providing a link back to us we will display a prominent,
clickable link at the top of your advert.
Q: Can I upload my own images?
A: Yes, you can upload up to six images of your choosing
Q: Do you provide a calendar?
A: Yes, we provide a full online calendar allowing you to log in and maintain
your availability to prospective renters.
You are also able to use our calendar on your own or other websites if you wish,
to reduce the amount of times that you have to log in and update calendars when
you take a booking
Q: Why do renters have to press a "contact" button to see my details?
A: Our system has been designed to work this way for two reasons:
- In order to allow us to count the number of people viewing your contact details
- To make it harder for your contact details to be “harvested” by third parties by
downloading the website data.
Q: Can I provide different contact details per property?
A: Yes, you can. When you set up your property, you have the option to add
different contact details.
Q: Can I edit my property details and photographs at any time?
A: Yes, you can. Just log into your owners management system and update your
property - the changes are immediately visible on the site.
Q: Can I see how many people have viewed my property?
A: Yes, look in your owners system for the "Property Statistics" link which
shows:
- The number of times that your property has been viewed
- The number of times that people have pressed the "Show contact details" button
- The number of times that you have received direct email enquiries
- The number of times that visitors have clicked on the link to go straight to your
own website (if you have one)
Q: My images look "fuzzy" or pixellated where as other peoples
are fine. What could be wrong?
A: This is generally because the images that you have uploaded are too small
in size.
We resize all images to be 400 pixels wide - just under half the width of a regular
screen - and unfortunately this is never going to produce satisfactory results if
the uploaded images are less than this size (reducing images in size is generally
fine, blowing them up is not!).
The best solution is to see if you have any higher resolution images that you can
upload - either on your PC or that you can download from another website?
See our
Image Help page for additional information
as to how we treat image files.
Q: Why do you show only low and high season rate in the listings?
My rates are more advanced than that
A: The low & high rates are only to allow basic comparisons on the search
results page.
We provide a freetext area and a table for you to fill in your charging structure
and this is visible when renters view your full advert.
Q: How do the renters contact me?
A: You are able to choose which contact details potential clients are able
to use when contacting you. Clients will contact you by telephone where you provide
this information, or by filling in a form on our site which will email their enquiry
to you. In order to minimize misuse your email address will not be visible to people
browsing the site.
Payment Details
Q: What is VAT?
A: VAT is an acronym for Value Added Tax, and is a sales tax added to a product
or material. Depending on the country of residence, VAT can have different values.
Q: What VAT do I need to pay?
A: If you are a resident outside EU (European Union) you will not be charged
VAT.
If you live in an EU member country, then you are exempt from VAT as long as you
are registered for VAT in your country and can provide a VAT number.
If you are resident in an EU member country but you are not registered as a business,
then the system will automatically charge you with the VAT value from your residence
country.
Exception: All UK (United Kingdom) residents will be charged VAT, at 20%.
Additional promotional options
Q: How do you sort your listing in the search results?
A: The order that regular property listings are displayed in the search results
area is randomly shuffled to ensure fairness.
We offer a "premium listing" option which allows you
Q: How do I get a “Featured Property”?
A: “Featured Property” is a new service where you may see properties advertised
in their own large box as well as appear in the search results.
Details for Premium listing and Featured Property listings can be found here.
Q: How do I add a link to your site from mine?
A: If you log into your owners management system, you will see an "Advanced
options" link by your property, which takes you to a page where you can retrieve
a customized link for you to put on your own site. This page also contains the link
if you wish to embed our calendar in your own website or adverts elsewhere.
There is some background and additional information
about linking
instructions here and some generic

Your Account
Q: Can I reset my password?
A: If you have forgotten your password or are unable to log in, you can reset
your password by clicking on the ‘forgotten password’ link on the owners’ homepage.
This resets your password to a random value and immediately emails it to you. You
can then log in using your email address and new password.
Q: I have reset my password but haven't received the email
with the new password.
A: The email is sent out immediately upon you clicking the ‘reset’ button
and should normally take less than a minute to get to you, however delays can happen
with email providers across the Internet that are not in our control. If you have
not received your new password after a short while, firstly please check any “Junkmail”,
“Bulk” or “Spam” email folders that you may have as some email providers are over-aggressive
in marking emails as ‘unwanted’. If you still do not have your new password, please
send an email to our support desk at
registration@vacationrentalpeople.com and we will do our best to help.
Q: How do I change my password or contact details?
A: Once you are logged in, you will see a “change password” link in the top
right-hand corner of the screen. This allows you to change your password any time
that you like.
Your contact details can be updated by using the “My Details” link when you are
logged into owners system. Note that the details here are only for our records.
If you want to change the details that potential clients see when viewing your property,
use the “Edit Contact Information” link above each property.
Technical issues
Q: Why am I am unable to get your site to work?
A: There is a known issue with "Zonealarm" personal firewall in preventing
access to some websites that use cookies to control the user's session. As far as
we are aware, this only affects the owners’ site so you will not be able to upload
your property with Zonealarm enabled - the system will appear to hang when browsing
down through the locations.
The solution is to temporarily disable Zonealarm (or it's "privacy" or "cookie blocking"
features) whilst you edit your property
Q: Is there a browser compatibility issue?
A: We have had several thousand owners upload their property details without
incident, however we do recognize that there are an almost infinite number of variations
of software that can be used to access the site - PCs, MACs , mobile phones, screen
readers for the visually impaired - running all sorts of software, each with their
own quirks.
We do our best to ensure that our site is compatible with everything however inevitably
some things will slip between the cracks as we are unable to test every variation.
If you can spot something wrong with the site, please tell us!
