General Guidelines
For uploading images of your property and the surrounding area, we suggest that you adhere to the following guidelines :

Choose a "main" picture - this will also be miniaturised and used as the icon for your property on the search results page, so make sure this picture is :

  • well defined
  • portrays the image that you would like to project

For the other images (we allow up to six in total), we accept uploaded image in any sensible size (up to about 10 megabytes each) but we do resize and recompress every image that you upload.

We resize all images to be 400 pixels (just under half a regular screen) wide but retain the aspect ratio of the picture - so proportions of the image stay as you uploaded it.
Therefore please try to keep your images to 'normal' proportions - the same height/width ration as a regular photograph or digital camera - no panoramas or tall and thin pictures.
We display all images in pairs, so if you do violate the guideline above, at least try to upload your images in pairs of the same proportions - otherwise your adverts ends up with a lot of blank space!

If you wish to transfer your images from another website, for example your own, the process is 'fairly' simple.

Firstly, find the picture that you want to download. If you have both "thumbnail" (miniature) and main pictures on your website, it is best to reveal and download the larger image - stretching a tiny image to fill a big space generally does not look good!
Then you right-click on the image in your web browser - you are looking for the following menu item which (varies by web browser) is called something similar to

'save image as' (on Internet Explorer)
    'save picture as' (on Firefox)
Do not choose 'save target as' - this does something completely different, leaving you with an html file (a web page) rather than the image. Our system then gets very confused if you try and upload these!
Then choose a location on your PC to save the image too - either your desktop or a location that you will be able to find later.
Save your images one at a time, then switch to the vacation rental people image uploading page.
Then, using the "Browse" button, choose an image that you just saved and click "Upload Image". Remember to browse and then upload one image at a time.

If you think you have uploaded images but none appear

If you think that you uploaded your images but your advert does not show them, you may have fallen into a common trap of "browsing" for each picture but not pressing the "upload" button after each "browse".

In order to correct this, log into the owners management system, choose "Edit Images" and then browse for an image, press upload and wait for it to appear on the screen before pressing "browse" to select the next image.

Why are my images blurry or pixellated?
This is generally because the images that you have uploaded are too small in size.
We resize all images to be 400 pixels wide - just under half the width of a regular screen - and unfortunately this is never going to produce satisfactory results if the uploaded images are less than this size
(reducing size is generally fine, blowing them up is a not!)
The best solution is to see if you have any higher resolution images that you can upload - either on your PC or that you can download from another website?

    Image Upload Service
We also offer an 'image upload' service, where we take your images in whatever form (from websites, by email, photos, brochures etc.) and upload them for you.
The cost for this service is £10 (14 Euro or $20 USD) per property, discount available for multiple properties.
Please email support@vacationrentalpeople.com for more details.
